Photo: Jim Vondruska/Getty Images The annual Fourth of July parade at Highland Park, Illinois, ended abruptly on Monday after an unknown shooter opened fire on the crowd, killing six people and injuring at least 24 others, who were brought to hospitals for varying injuries. The shooter remains at large, and residents of Highland Park have reportedly been told to shelter in place as law enforcement continue the search. Shooting reportedly started at 10:15 a.m. Video from the scene shared on social media shows people enjoying the parade and being confused when people in the procession started running.
